Fitbit users claim software update rendered devices unusable
Fitbit users are reporting that a software update issued in December 2023 has left their devices unusable. More than 100 users have taken to official forums to express their frustrations with the Charge 5, citing very short battery life as the most common issue.
Fitbit, which was acquired by Google in 2019, has denied that the problems are related to the software update, instead urging users to continue updating their devices and contact customer service if they encounter any issues. However, many users remain convinced that the software change is to blame.
Dean, a Charge 5 user from Essex, expressed his frustration with the update, stating that his device’s battery life significantly decreased and that customer service was unhelpful in resolving the issue.
The wearable tech market has faced challenges in recent years due to the increasing capabilities of smartphones. Fitbit, a pioneer in the fitness tracker market, has sold over 120 million units worldwide since its launch in 2009.
In response to the reported issues, some users are demanding that Google take accountability and allow for returns and upgrades of the affected devices, while others are considering switching to devices provided by rival firms.
Overall, users are expressing their discontent with the situation on Fitbit’s forums, demanding a resolution to the widespread issues.
Historically, Fitbit has been a leader in the wearable tech market, but recent issues with the Charge 5 software update have left many users dissatisfied with the company’s response. The ongoing debate about the cause of the problems and the lack of a clear solution from Fitbit has fueled frustration among users.
