NFL analyst and former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, 35, was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence in King County, Washington. According to jail records, Sherman was taken into custody by the Washington State Patrol at 3:48 a.m. No bond or bail was listed, and Sherman remained in jail as of Saturday night.
Under Washington state law, DUI is defined as driving under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any drug, with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or greater or more than 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood. It is unclear what substance Sherman may have been under the influence of during his arrest.
This is not the first time Sherman has faced legal trouble related to DUI. In 2021, he was arrested for driving under the influence, crashing his SUV in a construction zone, and attempting to break into his in-laws’ home. Sherman pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts earlier this year and agreed to court supervision through 2024.
Sherman, known for his successful playing career with the Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers, had recently transitioned to TV appearances as an analyst for Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” franchise. Despite his legal issues, he has not ruled out a return to the football field in the future.
Born and raised in South Los Angeles, Sherman attended Stanford University where he studied communication. His journey from a troubled neighborhood to a Super Bowl champion and respected NFL analyst has been both inspiring and complex.
