A staff member at a Colorado middle school, 27-year-old Luis Fernando Robles-Luevanos, was arrested for charges of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. The arrest came after multiple complaints by students at Creighton Middle School in Lakewood, Colorado, who alleged that Robles-Luevanos inappropriately touched them. Robles-Luevanos, who served as a coach and classroom instructor and worked closely with Spanish-speaking families, is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
The Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Tracy Dorland and Creighton Principal Nick Kemmer sent a statement to parents alerting them of Robles-Luevanos’ arrest. The statement mentioned that he had been on administrative leave since last Thursday and that the school district is in the process of terminating his employment.
The school also disclosed that they are working closely with the Lakewood Police Department to extend support and resources within the district to victims and their families. They are hosting a meeting with the Lakewood Police Department on Tuesday, Feb. 20, to address the situation.
Detectives suspect there may be more victims in this case and are asking anyone with information on the suspect or who feels they were a victim to call the Lakewood police tip line at 303-763-6800.
Historically, cases of sexual assault by school staff have been an ongoing issue, and it is crucial for schools and law enforcement to work together to support victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
