Hundreds of NFL stars gathered at the Resorts World Theater in Las Vegas on Thursday for the NFL Honors show, a prelude to the Super Bowl. The prestigious event saw the presentation of awards such as Most Valuable Player, Coach of the Year, and the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
Among the attendees were Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily, with Mayfield being a strong contender for one of the evening’s top honors. Although the Comeback Player of the Year award ultimately went to Browns quarterback Joe Flacco, Mayfield received significant recognition in the voting process.
According to the 49 Associated Press voters who decided the winner, Mayfield received 10 first-place votes and was represented on 33 of the 49 ballots. This resulted in a total of 93 points for Mayfield, an impressive showing that reflected his impact on the 2023 season.
In addition to Mayfield, four other players and coaches from the Buccaneers’ 2023 squad received votes for awards. Notably, linebacker Yaya Diaby, a third-round pick in 2023, received a single first-place vote for Defensive Rookie of the Year, showcasing the team’s depth and talent.
Head Coach Todd Bowles and former Offensive Coordinator Dave Canales, now the head coach of the Carolina Panthers, also received votes for their contributions to the team’s success.
The NFL Honors show was a night to celebrate the exceptional achievements of players and coaches throughout the 2023 season, and the presence of Buccaneers’ representatives demonstrated the team’s impact on the league. It was a memorable event for the organization, with Mayfield’s impressive performance being a highlight of the evening.
