B.C. hockey officials tight-lipped following goalie’s motionless on-ice injury after fight

Hockey officials are being quiet about a disturbing incident in the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) that occurred during a game on January 25th. The incident left North Vancouver Wolf Pack goalie Evan Paul motionless on the ice. The fight, between North Vancouver Wolf Pack and the Richmond Sockeyes, showed Richmond defenceman Eithan Grishin on top of Paul with his arms around him for an extended period before Paul eventually slumped to the ice. As a result, Grishin received a match penalty for a blow to the head. The North Vancouver Wolf Pack released a statement on Sunday stating that Paul had suffered a “severe injury” and was recovering at home. The team declined to comment further. PJHL commissioner Trevor Alto, the Richmond Sockeyes, and other relevant authorities have all declined to provide statements at this time. Grishin, 19, has a history of incidents earlier in this season and has been suspended for a total of 16 games. This incident has raised concerns about player safety and behavior in the PJHL.
