Shane Pryor, the 17-year-old escaped prisoner, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in Philadelphia after spending five days on the run. Pryor’s attorney, Paul DiMaio, expressed relief at his safe custody and expressed a desire to shift the focus back to Pryor’s legal defense.
Pryor had escaped custody just before noon on Wednesday after being taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for a hand injury. He was pursued by escorting staff but managed to flee while exiting the car. Despite being on the run, Pryor was captured on surveillance video inside the Hub for Clinical Collaboration, although he left the building shortly after.
He used a phone to call 18-year-old Michael Diggs, who then picked him up, and the two were later spotted at different locations in the city. Diggs was eventually taken in for questioning, but Pryor was not found in the vehicle. Pryor had been awaiting trial for the murder of Tanya Harris in 2020, and it was believed that he shot her in the head after attempting to solicit sex from her.
Pryor’s escape and subsequent capture have garnered significant attention in the local media, and his case remains a matter of interest for the authorities and the community at large. The events surrounding his escape have raised questions about the safety and security protocols at juvenile justice facilities, sparking public concern and scrutiny.
