Seventeen-year-old escaped prisoner Shane Pryor was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service on Sunday night in Philadelphia after evading capture for five days. Pryor, originally in custody at the Juvenile Justice Services Center, escaped after being taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for a hand injury. He was pursued by escorting staff but managed to flee. Pryor was later seen on surveillance video inside the Hub for Clinical Collaboration, where he attempted to use a phone before leaving the building.
Pryor used a phone to call 18-year-old Michael Diggs before both fled in a cream-colored Ford. They were later seen at the corner of Mascher Street and Godfrey Avenue before being spotted at a corner store, wearing different clothes than when they escaped.
Pryor, along with a co-defendant, has been in custody since 2020 for the murder of Tanya Harris in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia. Harris was shot in the head after rejecting Pryor’s and another male’s attempt to solicit sex from her. Pryor was later stopped by police in the neighborhood and attempted to flee after giving a fake name. He was eventually apprehended and claimed that another man was responsible for the murder, but investigators later determined this to be false.
Shane Pryor’s capture brings to an end a dramatic and eventful five days where he managed to evade authorities and capture the attention of the public. His daring escape and subsequent capture have left Philadelphia residents on edge and captivated the nation as the story unfolded. The details of his crime and subsequent escape will undoubtedly go down in Philadelphia’s criminal history as one of the most enthralling and concerning incidents in recent memory.
