Tragedy Strikes: FlixBus Involved in Fatal Crash on German Motorway near Leipzig

On March 27, 2024, a tragic motorway crash near Leipzig, Germany has left four people dead and 35 injured. The incident involved a FlixBus coach veering off the busy A9 autobahn and overturning on its side. The coach had departed from Berlin with two drivers and 52 passengers on board, en route to Nuremberg and Zurich.

The state of Saxony expressed condolences for the victims, with initial reports of five deaths later confirmed to be four, with a fifth person in critical condition. Six individuals suffered serious injuries, while 29 sustained light injuries. The accident occurred around 10:00 local time on the A9, a major north-south motorway in Germany.

FlixBus, a company founded in Munich in 2011, operates long-distance coach services across Europe, America, and Asia. The 107 service bus was two hours into its journey when the crash occurred near Leipzig/Halle Airport. Authorities stated that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Rescue helicopters and ambulances rushed to the scene, with local hospitals preparing for a major emergency. The autobahn was closed near the Schkeuditzer Kreuz interchange as investigations into the cause of the accident continue. This is not the first coach accident on the A9 motorway, with similar incidents occurring in the past.
