Rangers face tough Europa League draw against Benfica
Rangers have been handed a challenging Europa League last-16 draw against Portuguese champions Benfica. As group winners, Rangers will play away for the first leg on 7 March, with the return leg at Ibrox a week later.
Benfica, who currently sit joint top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga table alongside Sporting Lisbon, boast a squad filled with talent including young stars like Antonio Silva and Joao Neves, as well as experienced players like Angel di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi.
The two clubs previously met in the Europa League in 2020, with Rangers drawing twice against Benfica. Despite their historic success in European competitions, Benfica will provide a tough challenge for Steven Gerrard’s side.
The draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place on 15 March, with the final set for 22 May in Dublin.
In addition to the Rangers-Benfica matchup, the full Europa League last-16 draw includes fixtures such as Sparta Prague vs Liverpool and Qarabag vs Bayer Leverkusen.
